UN launches global plan against trafficking in women and children 
The United Nations has launched a global action plan to fight against human trafficking and called on world governments to take coordinated and coherent action to defeat this scourge. This plan was adopted last July at the Annual General Meeting in New York. The UN says more than 2.4 million people are being exploited, abused by people or organizations that engage in human trafficking. The action plan includes four components:
Preventing human trafficking, protect and assist victims of trafficking in persons, prosecute perpetrators of trafficking in persons and strengthen partnerships in the fight against trafficking in persons . Ban Ki-moon in his statement called human trafficking "modern slavery". "Every year, thousands of people, mostly women and children are exploited by criminals who use them for forced labor or the sex trade. No country is immune. Almost all play a role. Either as a reservoir of people, either as a transit point or as a destination, "he added. The UN has also established a fund to assist victims and to offer victims protection and support they need.
